Empowering Female Sneakerheads in a Male-Dominated World

Over the past few years, the meteoric rise of the female sneakerhead has been quite apparent. Household names such as Melissa Chanel, Sherlina Nym, and Sallys Sneakers are paving the way for women in a once male-dominated space… But are we really doing enough?

Collaborative projects with female creators are some of the hottest and most hyped around, so shouldn’t we be shouting about them from the rooftops? If you feel the same, The Edit LDN’s brand new female-focused platform, Her Edit LDN, is here to showcase some of the baddest queens in the game.

Yoon Ahn

An icon in the sneakersphere, Yoon Ahn’s AMBUSH x Nike collections are, hands down, some of the most popular ones out there. Traditionally, women’s sneakers are all about being pink, soft, and dainty, but the South Korean designer is here to rewrite all of the rules. Flawlessly fusing colourful palettes with bold designs, each and every one of Yoon’s silhouettes, from her Air Forces to her Dunks, has us in a chokehold, and we’re beyond excited to see what she comes up with next.

Tiffany Beers

The brains and imagination behind the Nike MAG (the futuristic kicks that Marty McFly rocked during Back to the Future Part II), Tiffany Beers was specifically selected to design and develop the Swoosh’s revolutionary HyperAdapt system back in 2016. Created using an electro adaptive lacing system abbreviated as “E.A.R.L.”, this will go down in history as one of the most innovative sneaker designs to exist in our lifetime. Oh, and as if that wasn’t cool enough already, Tiffany also worked on the Air Yeezy 1 as well as Tom Sachs's Mars Yard project. Pretty neat, right?

Melody Ehsani

A fashion designer based out in Los Angeles, Melody Ehsani has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the game. Back in 2019, she teamed up with the Jumpman brand for the Air Jordan 1 Mid SE “Fearless.” Designed in only eight hours, it ended up being one of the fastest-selling women’s shoes in history (with a high resell price tag to match). She’s also the first female Creative Director at Foot Locker. Go, girl!

Chitose Abe

A true pioneer in sneaker collabs, Chitose Abe’s sacai x Nike is home to some of the most lusted-after sneakers, with each drop, from the LDWaffle to the VaporWaffle, selling out literally within seconds. Her signature deconstructed aesthetic, with the double Swooshes, tongues, and laces, is unlike anything else out there, and it’s a huge reason why we love the shoe game as much as we do. Over the past decade, she has successfully broken down the barriers of what is considered to be feminine and masculine design, and she’s also one of very few women to completely reimagine some of Nike’s most famous models.

Charlotte Lee

Based in the UK’s very own Manchester, Charlotte Lee is the designer behind some of New Balance’s most popular styles, including the 237, 327, and the XC-72. When it comes to creating a new silhouette from scratch, Charlotte has a very different approach. Growing up, she was never a very big sneakerhead, so doesn’t have any nostalgia to look back on. Instead, she designs what she wants on her feet, and understands that sneakers are no longer just for athletes, so things like aesthetics and sustainability need to work hand-in-hand with each other.

We could literally be here all day celebrating these incredible women! Tonnes of styles are available to shop right now, so keep an eye out for weekly Her Edit LDN updates!
