A Sneak Peek at the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 990v4 "Black"

After working on the 650 earlier this season, Chicago's very own Joe Freshgoods is back in the lab, this time for the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 990v4 "Black." Taking to Instagram to make the official announcement, it takes a break from the American multi-hyphenate's usual vibrant colour schemes in favour of a monochromatic aesthetic that will, no doubt, sell out in seconds.

Seemingly inspired by the late '90s – specifically a cover of XXL from June 1999 – this 990v4 pays homage to the magazine’s legendary photoshoot with Jay Z, DMX, and Ja Rule. Working on top of a black mesh base, it's overlaid by premium panels of suede and leather, similar to the "Black White" colourway that released back in 2016.

However, rather than the classic "990" branding that's stitched around the heel, it's now replaced with "JFG" instead, nodding to the designer's initials. Underfoot, the midsole is infused with ENCAP tech for unbeatable comfort, and all of this comes packed in a special co-branded shoebox that's almost as collectible as the New Balances themselves.

Not much else is known about the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 990v4 "Black" at this moment in time, but it's set to drop within the next couple of weeks. Let us know if you'll be adding these to your collection, and in related news, the Aminé x New Balance 610S "Mini Mooz" is one of the rarest sneakers of the year!
